Maiolica White brings the refinement and timeless charm of antique hand-painted majolica into the twenty-first century. Tradition has been reinterpreted.
It is as if the tiles have been salvaged and reclaimed from a centuries old finca or palacio. The wear and tear of time is skilfully reproduced on the surface of each glazed porcelain tile, occasionally interrupted to reveal the red clay beneath. The shiny surface layer seems to have been eroded by time. If used in conjunction with Maiolica Blue, it is possible to artistically assemble a seemingly random decorative frieze to act as a focal point in a contemporary scheme.
It is thought that the beauty and charm of Mediterranean Maiolica (or Majolica) probably started with Moorish artisans in Sicily and then spread across countries such as Italy, Spain and Portugal. Today, Maiolica White can bring the distinctive and sophisticated style of the Mediterranean into your project, from a private residence to a unique hotel.
