It is as if a decorative frieze has been salvaged and reclaimed from a centuries old finca or palacio. The wear and tear of time is skilfully reproduced on the surface of each glazed porcelain tile, occasionally interrupted to reveal the red clay beneath. The shiny surface layer seems to have been eroded by time. Here you can artistically assemble a seemingly random decorative frieze to act as a focal point in a contemporary scheme.
It is thought that the beauty and charm of Mediterranean Maiolica (or Majolica) probably started with Moorish artisans in Sicily and then spread across countries such as Italy, Spain and Portugal.
